Vero Software: a force to be reckoned with at the Paris Air Show 2015

Three CAD/CAM brands from the Vero Software Group will be in attendance for the second time to showcase their specialized solutions for the aerospace/aeronautic industries at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget near Paris from the 15th to 21st of June.

The International Paris Air Show - Paris, Le Bourget, staging its 51st edition this year, has always been the epicenter for worldwide market development within the aeronautic and aerospace industries and has become, over the years, the privileged venue for these sectors of activity. For Vero, it's the perfect occasion to present its new CAD/CAM Viewer Analyzer and Trade Oriented ERP software solutions. The wide range of applications covered by these products is prefectly suited to the three essential requirements of these industries: Quality, Costs and Lead Times.

WORKNC CAD/CAM :

Machining requirements for the aeronautic and defence sectors are highly demanding. Featuring a range of innovative and powerful 2D, 3- and 5-axis modules, WORKNC is particularly well adapted for manufacturing parts for these industries, for example structural parts made from diverse materials such as titanium, composites, aluminium, stainless and high-alloy steels, engine components or tooling equipment.

With regard to machining structural parts from aluminium or the hardest composite materials, the priority is rapid and secure stock material removal. In this respect, WORKNC's renowned roughing routines are extremely efficient and reliable. Lead-ins, lead-outs, stepovers, trochoidal movements; everything has been designed to optimize cutting conditions for this type of material. Based on dynamic stock model management and comprehensive collision control - tool, tool holder, stock, machine kinematics - specialized toolpaths allow important stock removal rates under completely safe conditions.

Whatever the shape or complexity of these parts - curvatures, thin walls, undercut areads, hole features - WORKNC disposes of a wide range of functions and toolpaths which are indispensable for the finishing phase: vibration-free high speed machining leaving no marks, specialized 5-axis finishing, feature recognition and automatic or interactive hole machining routines.
The finishing phase for carbon or composite material parts requires a number of very specific operations: the milling aspect - in order to respect the exact dimensions of the part - the drilling aspect - to rapidly perform a high number of drilling operations which, in many cases, are not represented in the CAD model. For this type of application, WORKNC proposes 5-axis machining cycles for both 'trimming' and 'drilling' operations which are capable of working from a set of points along with relevant coordinates and axis orientation data.

Regarding engine components, the WORKNC development teams have worked with professionals in this sector in order to develop specialized 5-axis toolpaths for roughing, finishing and remachining of impellers, blades and turbines from casting stock models.

Toolmakers put their trust in WORKNC for manufacturing aeronautic tooling equipment. Roughing and finishing routines benefit from all of WORKNC's general and automatic functions - global collision management, dynamic stock model management, optimized toolpaths... A particular mention can be made concerning the feature recognition module which allows different types of holes to be identified in the CAD model and to which can be applied either automatically or interactively, personalized and predefined drilling, threading and boring strategies. For aeronautic tooling equipment, which often have hundreds of holes to be drilled, the amount of time that can be saved and the reduced number of errors is incalculable.

Such parts evolve very quickly and numerous tests are required for the maintenance and revision of these structural parts, the WORKXPLORE Viewer/Analyzer can read and manage 3D models imported from a wide range of CAD systems to improve and make more cost-effective the collaboration and design data sharing capabilities between organisations and different partners involved in projects by using the application's annotation functions.

VISI CAD/CAM :

Anticipate potential problems on parts and processes, permanent elimination of important financial risks linked to incorrect data assessment.

VISI is one of the leading solution providers in the field of tooling design. It covers all design requirements thanks to its powerful hybrid, surface, solid and wireframe modeller. Toolmakers appreciate the improved productivity offered by automated unfolding and the definition of intermediate stages for progressive tools or follow-on tools.

The VISI Blank and VISI Progress modules of the VISI software suite offer improved design quality and performance for progressive or follow-on die stamp tools. VISI Blank is designed for part and tool cost evaluation along with die stamp simulation. It allows in-depth analysis allowing reliable product design validation even before starting the tool design phase. A comprehensive and customized material database ensures virtual analysis reliability for all types of material. Constraint zones can be added to simulate die stamping of the part and validate the process.

V21 development concerning VISI Progress and VISI Blank has been concentrated on improving process safety and faster treatment of large models. Thanks to the latest FTI calculation engine, the calculation speed of sheet metal blank development has been significantly increased. Additional parameters have been included such as the elasticity module. Defining material crushing zones is now possible. The possibilty of creating a database of standard tools with standard pllar die sets has been added to reduce engineering development time.

EDGECAM CAM :

Today, it has become apparent that there is a significant shift in many workshops towards complex Turn and Turn/Mill machining centers.  All these machine tools have the capacity to work in the simultaneous 5-axis mode and are therefore difficult to program directly on the NC console. The EDGECAM CAM solution has therefore become a vital link. The EDGECAM CAM solutions, geared to the serial production market, combine the power of generating complex toolpaths with the integration of uniform functions. They allow programming all types of machining strategies such as turning, milling and combined turning/milling in one single environment (turbine shafts, fan disks...).

The new revolutionary Waveform roughing strategy for turning in EDGECAM 2015 offers material removal rates 3 times higher than with traditional machining. Based on the Waveform milling roughing strategy, the toolpath maintains a constant load on the cutter allowing higher feed rates and prolonged tool service life. The use of the full cutting length of the tool leads to uniform tool wear instead of being concentrated uniquely on the tool tip and also greatly reduces vibrations to ensure a perfect surface finish. As for other turning commands, this strategy takes into account the stock model which eliminates 'air cutting' and reduces machining times.

Aeronautic applications regularly require 3-, 4- and 5-axis lathes but nowadays multifunction mill/turn machines are often the the most suitable alternative. EDGECAM offers simple and safe programming of these multitask machine tools with turning and milling functions in the same environment. The aeronautic industry puts pressure on its suppliers to propose new processes, technologies and quality control systems. With EDGECAM, all cycles and movements are taken into account along with full modelization of the machine. The simulator also includes a tool to compare the machined model with the CAD model.
